What do you think about the Scriptures in 1 corinthians where it talks about their being a diversity of spiritual gifts, and that not everyone will recieve the gift of prophecy, or
the gift of speaking in tongues, or the gift of teaching, but God distributes these gifts as He wills.
Rather, the gift of tongues becomes
a gift of speaking in other languages so that people from throughout the world could hear «the mighty works of God» (2:11) Even that miraculous event remains incomplete and misunderstood until it is interpreted by the apostolic preaching.
Chapters 12 — 14 deal with the issue of spiritual gifts, and ultimately,
the gift of speaking in tongues (1 Cor 14), and so 1 Corinthians 12:1 - 3 is apparently the opening summary statement of what issue or question the Corinthian Christians were facing.
Hence, we got into a fruitful discussion of what it means to be given
the gift of speaking another's language.

gift of celibacy» is not the desire or capacity to be celibate — humanly
