I am very glad my state has pretty strong
gifted education laws, but there are still a lot of flaws that need to be fixed.
Not exact matches
One telling sign is that the federal government does not impose minimum standards for
gifted education, even though the No Child Left Behind
law imposes all sorts of mandates to bring up the bottom.
The
laws authorizing special -
education and
gifted programs expired June 30 under the state's «sunset»
law, which requires the legislature to review and renew programs periodically.
California
education officials have told school districts to operate programs for the handicapped and the
gifted in a «business as usual» fashion following the expiration of state
laws governing those programs.

law.
Virginia
law allows school divisions to establish
gifted education policies and procedures according to the needs and interests of the local division.
Gifted education programs are required by Virginia
law, as specified in Virginia Administrative Code, 8VAC20 -40-10 through 8VAC20 -40-70.
The creation of Chapter 16 and the separation of
gifted education from Chapters 14 and 342 are not intended to circumvent the statutory protections afforded to
gifted students by the School Code, nor is it the Board's intent to create a need to relitigate case
law already established in this Commonwealth pertaining to
gifted students.
It is the Board's intent to draw a clear distinction between
gifted education as required in this Commonwealth and special
education as required by Federal
law.
