Reading the thread on this article and I noticed a lot of people naming strikers we could have gotten in past transfer windows that have gone to other club and failed, Balotelli, Falcao, Martinez, Boney etc are recurring names in all the comments, and am sat here thinking because they failed in thee clubs does not necessarily mean they would have failed if we had pulled out our fingers and hot them back then, Balotelli aside I strongly believe all of these players could have made a difference playing infront of our midfield and given the kind of attention and care Wenger gives Giroud and Walcott, adapting our play to suit them and giving them chances after chances even when its blatantly obvious they are average players so please lets not keep using that as an excuse for Wenger's ultra careful attitude in the transfer market, they could have failed with us, or they could have been massive for us, all speculations.
(3) formation flexibility — it took 20 years for Wenger to return to a back 3 and now he can't seem to choose anything but that formation... the teams in the premiership and those we could face in the Europa will present vastly different tactics and we need to have a manager who can prepare this squad for this eventuality and have the fortitude to make the necessary adjustments throughout the season... I have seen nothing in the past 6 - 7 years to suggest that he is the man to take on this challenge... I can't even remember when he changed formations when he would replace a small, pacy striker, like during the Walcott experiment, with the lumbering Giroud... of course this is exactly why there is no other manager in the world that plays more players out of their natural positions (square peg in a round hole)

2) No leaders across the pitch: Özil for all the money is no leader but a technically gifted player who can split a defense with an exquisite vision and pass, Sanchez for all the dribbles as the potential but is not there yet, Cazorla will never be in the conversation, Mertesacker is not fit to be one anymore, Coquelin for all the good he has done is too tender and inexperience, Giroud no WC player to assume the role... the only one who can seriously be a leader is Wilshere but unfortunately until he becomes consistent and set the tone with his talent and passion... 3) Mertesacker is a shell of himself and it would be an embarrassment to see him continue to play in his current form, get Gabriel out just for the sake of showing anybody in this team that there's no place for under performers: we paid good money to get him so play him!

Although the game is a dead rubber, Wenger has made it clear that he will still be playing his experienced reserves to give them a little more match fitness ahead of our congested fixture list in the rest of this month, so it is certain that our front line will consist of Wilshere, Walcott and Giroud again, although I expect Welbeck to be given a run out as well at some point.
Alexis gets chance to play as a CF for periods as Theo can drop out wide easier than Giroud, if Welbz is playing on the right then all 3 of our players could play wide and CF.. I don't really blame any of those players at all, first mistake from Wenger was his team selection and secondly wrong players in a wrong position,, its quite sad with all their mouths and boasting of starting the season strongly and aiming for the league just a waste of energy and wishful thinking, am putting the whole blame on Wenger, where is Belerin, why Ozil, Cazorla played out of positions, you should know their weaknesses and strength as a coach, why must we pass and pass to score a goal, many opportunities came from shooting distance but the players will always be looking for the next person to pass the ball to, its quite unfortunate that a big club like arsenal is relying on a scrappy Giroud to lead an attack of a team aiming to win the league.
cazorla — great player, just as with wilshere always injured ramsey — needs to play like he does for wales week in week out if not next season upgrade welbeck — cant see what he offers and lacazette / giroud looks way better, lots of injuries, do nt forget man u did nt want him in the first place.
Welbeck came back from injury last cson and was in scoring form only for Wenger to bench him or / and move him out wide just to play a Giroud who was on a 20 - game draught and it made us rack up about 3consecutive draws and a loss which made us lose any hope of the title.

i still hold the opinion the striker we use is dependent on the opposition we play, for all the brilliance of Alex he has been shut out in several games by pressing arsenal and letting us having to resort to long balls which he fails to get on to, if teams stops arsenal build up, they stop arsenal with sanchez as the forward, however with both Alex and Giroud on the field we have the opportunity to switch styles without making changes.
My real concern is up front, for the wide positions and cf we have a total of 5 first team players, Welbeck, Giroud, Walcott, Ox and Sanchez also Cazorla Ramsey and Ozil will play a game or 2 out wide but I really think we need either a winger or a striker, they don't even need to be out of this world someone like Mertens, Callejon, Pedro, Immobile, Llorente, Austin, Pelle would do.
