It gets dinner on the table
earlier (and therefore keeps
bedtime reasonable), and
gives us all more stress - free time together as a family in the evenings.
In the table above, milk is
given less frequently: only during
early morning, mid-afternoon, and
bedtime.
In this last table, solid foods are served most of the day, while milk is
given only in the
early morning and
bedtime.
Giving your baby an
early bedtime, however, can have surprising results: it helps them sleep longer!
Given the fact that time together for so many households starts at around 6 or 7 o'clock or even later in the evening on a school night, it can be tough to set an
early bedtime.
If your child has
given up daytime naps, consider adjusting to an
earlier bedtime.
To help baby stop pooping after going to sleep for the night, consider
giving the last feed a bit
earlier in the night to encourage a movement before
bedtime.
On those days, they will be cranky little pains - in - the - butt who will need an
earlier bedtime to make up for it, or at least to
give you a break from their (self - inflicted) misery.
Give your baby an
early bath and start
bedtime routine around 6:30 pm; you want them in bed by 7 pm.
The other issue is that my milk production is low in the
early evenings before her 7:30
bedtime, and I'm totally fine with
giving her a bottle of formula to fill her up, but she will pretty much flat - out refuse a bottle (formula or breast milk) unless she is starving.
Note: If you are trying to go to bed substantially
earlier (like by an hour or two),
give yourself curfews in stages — try bumping your
bedtime 15 minutes
earlier one week, and then 30 minutes
earlier the next week, and so on.
When kids (and adults) are sleep - deprived, their bodies release hormones including cortisol, adrenaline, and noradrenaline, which
give them a second wind at
bedtime and also make it harder for them go back to sleep
early in the morning.
