The ensuing media glare made it tougher for the United Federation of
Teachers to defend problematic practices,
gave the union
leadership reason to seek a deal that would staunch the bad publicity, and consequently put district leaders in a stronger bargaining
position.
In the 2014 contract, she
gave classroom educators a chance to lead by example through
teacher leadership positions in which they can share the secrets of their success with peers.
