At Berkeley, we were doing
ceramic sculpture inspired by Voulkos, sort of abstract expressionist
ceramic sculptures
on a huge scale, with a tremendous amount of craft involved in making, firing, and
glazing them.
The
glazed ceramic was based
on a 2015 performance commissioned by the Whitechapel Gallery, in which Arancio hosted a group hypnotherapy session re-enacted from a YouTube video.
What this new group has achieved for me is a transfer not so much of form but of an attitude to colour and surface that comes from the use of

Over the last few weeks I have encountered a rather odd collection of sculptural things: the postwar
