Body - coloured sills and lower rear bumper surfaces with a Gloss Black rear valance give the vehicle a stronger sense of power and purpose.

All three interiors are a little dark and austere and feature gloss - black dash and / or console surfaces, but the Mazda 6 and Commodore go beyond perceived quality with soft - touch cabin surfaces almost everywhere.

Materials show well with a mixture of soft touch surfaces, gloss black trim and nicely finished hard plastics.

Kudos too for the subtly ribbed black finish on the control surfaces that's both pleasant to the touch and doesn't hold fingerprints like matte and gloss finishes on competitive makes.

On the SEl 2.4, you can enjoy leather seating surfaces, a leather - wrapped door armrest, and gloss black - line accent panels.

Olson: What types of paint do you use to get that specific black matte that occurs in your work and that sheen that you get on the gloss surfaces?

The jet black model features a «pristine, mirror - like surface» and a high - gloss, which is sadly prone to scratches.

The simple black exterior adds flair by contrasting a mostly textured surface with a stripe of gloss, but it's not what you'd call eye - catching.

Black is the overriding colour here, with gloss surfaces and a glass pendant light bringing another dimension to the look.
