What I think is really important for me
about the book is, I wrote it as if I were dying, and I finished the
manuscript, and then they told me I had cancer and that it expanded further than they'd hoped and that it was more advanced than we would want, and I didn't know if it was
going to be my last Christmas.
If you would
go mad having to worry
about whether a word has been hyphenated consistently all the way through a 40 - page
manuscript, or if you struggle to put together a grammatical sentence, then the production end of publishing is probably not for you.

You may happen to notice copy editing issues while doing a substantive edit (and vice versa), and it's fine to make notes

go entirely to your head, but be proud of your achievement, proud of your book, and happy
about the fact that you have a
manuscript to pitch.

When you hire an editor, be sure to consider how they
go about breaking down your

about turning in a publication ready

go about it is by getting the services of a literary agent.

If you can not afford an editor, be sure to carefully read a book
about self - editing, print your
manuscript out and
go over it with a fine tooth comb.
We all love to
go into excited depth
about our story... but in reality, if you're very brief and sharp
about it, the agent or publisher may be compelled to request the
manuscript and isn't that what we're
going for?
If anything, it's worth the look just to show how much work and iterations
go into every basic element of a book — it's no longer just
about managing to write and complete a
manuscript.
Considering my starting point was complete ignorance
about the process, I don't think six hours is all that bad, and I'm confident that with the «style» guide I assembled as I
went along that I could repeat the process on a new novel - length
manuscript in 30 - 60 minutes.
This author, who was a New York Times best seller, talked with a group of us
about how they never sent anything to their publisher without first having their own editor
go over the
manuscript.
Beyond that, as I alluded to in the opening, there's sort of been a new expectation / conventional wisdom creeping up that the key to being a Good Hardworking Promoting Author is to blow out your blog, your Facebook page, your website, your Twitter feed, your Goodreads network, and better yet, all of the above and by the way you need to set up your own author tour and try to get some media appearances
going we'd love it if you placed some articles and stories and where's your book trailer oh also don't quit your day job and don't forget
about your
manuscript deadline and make sure the next book is incredible and amazing and could you spend some time with your family please?

When I complete a developmental edit, I like to

As indie self - published writers, we get a bad rap
about this issue, but every single indie author that I know
goes to great length and expense to have their
