For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains
of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald
of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world
of the ungodly; if by turning the cities
of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example
of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct
of the
wicked (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); then the Lord knows how to rescue the
godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under
punishment until the day
of judgment, and especially those who indulge in the lust
of defiling passion and despise authority.
For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains
of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one
of eight people, a preacher
of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world
of the ungodly; and turning the cities
of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct
of the
wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds) then the Lord knows how to deliver the
godly out
of temptations and to reserve the unjust under
punishment for the day
of judgment, and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust
of uncleanness and despise authority.
2Pe 2:9 So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue
godly people from their trials, even while keeping the
wicked under
punishment until the day
of final judgment.
