good about breastfeeding in public.
Why is it so hard for new moms to feel
good about breastfeeding their babies?
Not exact matches
Before I gave birth I was very nervous
about being able to establish a
good milk supply and
breastfeed successfully.
Here are some basic tips
about eating
well during
breastfeeding:
When it comes to deciding whether or not a person should
breastfeed or not, if they're unsure
about their options, the
best person to go to for advice would be a licensed nurse midwife, though most levels of healthcare for women should be able to offer suggestions for the
best path for an expecting mother to follow.
To the
best of our ability, their father and I raised our children to see both parents working in the home and without as normal, and when they grew up, our daughters, our only children, had no second thoughts
about giving time to their careers, nor to the advantages of
breastfeeding and the importance of providing healthy, whole foods to their families.
WIC by no means is excited
about the numbers but they do want to move forward and include peer councilors into the normal visit to encourage pregnant mothers as
well as mothers who are currently
breastfeeding the opportunity to get support from other mothers like myself who have
breastfed.
So I just don't get the «too much pressure to
breastfeed» when all around me are images of bottles, ads for formula telling me a happy feeding makes a happy mom, bottlefeeding moms, moms and doctors and nurses telling new moms that formula is «just as
good» and «not to feel guilty», women getting «the look» for nursing in public, or feeling weird
about doing it (I sure did)-- to me, any pressure out there is NOT to
breastfeed, or do it as little as possible (not if it's not immediately easy or you don't love every minute, not past 6 mos, not in public, not around male relatives and friends, not around children, not if you ever want to go out alone sometime...)
From the outside looking in, this is a white, middle - class movement trying to educate other populations
about what is
good for them while ignoring the structural inequalities that make
breastfeeding a pipe dream or a total impossibility for less privileged families.
These days, the more I read
about the benefits of breast milk, the more convinced I am that it can only be
good for the baby, and that there are clear benefits to longer term
breastfeeding.
A family member who had not been successful
breastfeeding her first child came to me and asked for some advice
about how to do
better with her next one.

Not sure
about maternal diabetes and
breastfeeding — but I do not think it is such a leap of faith to believe that moms make the
best food for their infants.
I found this infographic
about the cost of a baby really interesting, especially the amount of money I am saving
breastfeeding, although it doesn't take into account my increased cake expenditure to keep me
well fuelled!
They were just trying to make me feel
better, and I get that, but they were filled with bad advice
about «so many women that just can't
breastfeed».

I mean, I knew that formula was a perfectly suitable alternative to
breastfeeding, but the list of BS things I told myself
about formula feeding was a long one and,
well, that list left me feeing anything other than confident and happy in my decision.

Losing weight while
breastfeeding is not so much
about finding any magic diet, but to find ways to eat
well despite often being both super busy and exhausted.

about a month and my oldest daughter for
about a month as

In last weeks
Breastfeeding Bites, I talked
about how important it is for a baby to achieve and maintain a
good lip seal around the breast tissue to
breastfeed well.
Although the U.S. has gotten
better about promoting
breastfeeding in the hospital, she said, there is a «tremendous gap in care» when women are discharged.
If you are caught in a disaster or emergency and
breastfeeding, you don't have to worry
about whether you have clean water or refrigeration or access to formula to ensure that your baby gets the nourishment — as
well as protection from disease — he needs in the midst of chaos.
There are voices endorsing only
breastfeeding and then those talking
about bottle feeding and then those talking
about co-parenting and then this type of labor method and this type of parenting style and this type of family and marriage and what is
best and I could go on and on but I try to keep these posts to a certain number of words.
