a good book blurb to make people interested in hosting you.
You get the benefit of longer product description directly on BN (400 characters is NOT enough for
a good book blurb in my mind), multiple keywords (which so far has been a crock, they haven't gotten it fixed), and the ability to get stuff deal with (usually) much easier than having to go through a third party.
Good book blurbs can influence buyers, though, so you want to push past anxiety or discomfort and work to get at least one or two you'd be proud to share on your cover.

Even if I'm not making a profit from the transaction, helping other indie authors in my genre is
good business for me, because I'm doing them a big favor, and they may repay it by
blurbing my
books or sharing me with their audiences.
Spending $ 500 to possibly get a
blurb is in my opinion, a big expense and the money is
better spent on editing or other marketing opportunities, upgrading your cover, staging
book ads.
