This is
good, as I prefer this series to be
read when
older.
I have even
read a few theologians recently who have been pining for the
good old days when the average person in the pew couldn't
read the Bible for themselves!

One still hears Methodists who ought to know
better referring to the responsive

I am 60 years
old, grew up in a very legalistic cultic church, been part of several church leaderships, served as pastor of a start up church,
read and went to many, many, many church growth conferences, wanted to reach the lost, always trying to find the
best structures, the
best form of church, and what type of bells and whistles will attract people to church.
Progressive religious folks of all stripes tend to share a post-triumphalism (a sense that it's time to move beyond the
old triumphalist paradigm in which one religion is The Right Path to God and all the other paths are wrong), as
well as an inclination toward
reading our sacred texts through interpretive lenses which take into account changing social mores and changing understandings of justice.

good points of the C of E is it has set
readings, one from the New Testament and one from the

I've
read a lot of the more controversial postings recently (such as the recent ones on Hell and Homosexuality as

older ones about the definition of the gospel) where it seems that the debates in the comment section always fail (at least for me) to help those who are trying to learn.
After one
reads Nietzsche's fevered discourses about the creation of new values that would need to take place once people realized that the God - idea is fiction, the ethical prescriptions he endorsed end up sounding at
best like a juiced - up version of the

reading it required numerous papers and a
good deal of
old - fashioned memorizing.
In short, Jesus and the Victory of God
reads like a
good old - fashioned book on Jesus, one that gives matters of theological substance and historical plausibility pride of place.
Great job
reading the Bible — especially the

reading it in context, or
better yet, start with Genesis 3 — the Fall of Man.

Maintaining a growing library of books that you've
read (whether it's on your Kindle or iPad or, you know, one of those actual «shelves» that
old mansions in the movies have), is a
good habit to get into at any age.
I was not always happy with the revisions of
old readings - they sometimes seem to excuse human responsibility - but in the end evil is called evil and
good is called
good while an overly simple generalizations are avoided.
Michael — I appreciate your sincerity, and won't dispute that there may be some accuracy contained in Genesis, but I can't get past the obvious inaccuracies one will
read as
well; e.g. all decedents from a single breeding pair (a.k.a. Adam and Eve), the extreme ages listed of 700 to 900 years
old, just to list two.
The only fiction I have
