Best Picture nomination, if only in recognition
of the franchise's record - breaking success and tireless pursuit
of excellence.
The film nabbed the top honors
of Best Picture for producers Emilie Georges, Luca Guadagnino, James Ivory, Howard Rosenman,
Peter Spears, Rodrigo Teixeira.
Aimed at the «tweener demo, the
picture's simplistically - scripted storyline pits
good versus evil as embodied by the Guardians
of the Universe (the Green Lantern Corps) and a pair
of diabolical antagonists in Parallax (Clancy Brown) on Oa, and Dr. Hector Hammond (
Peter Sarsgaard) down on this planet.
Kuri, at age 14, is one
of the
best things about the
picture, as his emotional scenes with his parents and Father Christopher (a brief appearance by
Peter O» Toole, «Troy «-RRB- are heart - wrenching and horrifyingly real.
And while McCarthy is fine here, the
picture would really be nothing without stellar supporting work, including Kristen Bell («Veronica Mars»),
Peter Dinklage («Pixels,» but

of Thrones» TV series), Tyler Labine («Tucker and Dale vs. Evil»), Cedric Yarbrough («The Goldbergs» TV series) and moppet Ella Anderson («The Possession

Otherwise, Criterion and the BFI produced wonderful two - film sets

Peter Watkins respectively; and Soda
Pictures did an excellent job in bringing 2015's
best film, The Forbidden Room, into the Region 2 market.
Banking on a new permissiveness in the amount
of violence and nudity allowed, much less encouraged, in European genre productions, the Towers
pictures (he often scripted as
well under the nom de plume
Peter Welbeck) are indicated by their prosaic exposition offset by their virulent racism.
The majestic finale
of Peter Jackson's blockbuster trilogy won
Best Picture, along with 10 other Oscars, including one for Jackson as
Best Director.
The last time Deakins managed that feat was in 2002, for his work on the Coen brothers» The Man Who Wasn't There, and while we predicted that Deakins would complete the hat trick on Oscar night (we even thought he was due after five nominations), he lost to Andrew Lesnie's epic - scale lensing
of Peter Jackson's The Lord
of the Rings: The Fellowship
of the Ring, which surely benefited that year from being the only film in this category that was also up for
best picture.
Girded for a similar disaster in Adam Sandler crony
Peter Segal's resurrection
of the beloved Mel Brooks & Buck Henry cult / camp slapstick television series «Get Smart», imagine my surprise that the
picture turned out to be sharp,
