They do take longer to cook than old - fashioned oats as
well as a bit longer than
steel cut, but the method is just as simple, perhaps even simpler since whole oats don't require stirring.
Steel cut oats are a favorite as
well for me, but it's just that my son won't eat it.
The
steel -
cut oats will stand up to the longer cooking time
better, but the regular ones are fine, too.
For this reason, old - fashioned or
steel cut oats (versus instant oats) would be expected to provide you with
better blood sugar support than instant oats.
It was between that and
steel cut and I assumed quick would absorb
better but maybe then I used too much milk??

I haven't tried this recipe with
steel cut oats or those packet of instant oats so I can not tell you if those would work just as

Well, last night I was feeling adventurous and instead of prepping a bowl of my normal overnight oats to have this morning for breakfast I whipped up a double batch of
steel cut oats using:

The mashed up banana adds a delicious texture, and the
steel cut oats hold up
well to reheating all week.
Steel cut oats don't work very
well for homemade granola so for all of these recipes use old fashioned oats if it doesn't specify that.
I usually do my oatmeal with
steel -
cut oats in a slow cooker and just recently started adding mashed bananas — so
good.
So, I made some adjustments and added a lot of
Good Stuff like honey, wheat germ (which has Vitamin A and Folic Acid) and 1/3 cup
steel cut oats.
Most Zucchini Oatmeal I've seen uses either Quick or Rolled Oats, but I decided to use
Steel Cut Oats in this recipe because (1) they keep
better in the fridge, (2) they have a wonderful texture, and (3) they have a longer cooking time, which allows our shredded Zucchini to «melt» into the Oat mixture and be almost indecipherable.
Keep in mind that both the
Steel Cut Oats and the Chia Jam will thicken as they cool, so it is
best to stop the simmering process a little bit before these mixtures reach your desired consistency.
It tasted
good, and even though I am a
steel -
cut oat lover, I think rolled oats made for a much
better texture in this baked oatmeal.

for this recipe i wanted to try out using
steel cut oats as
well as rolled oats.
Baking the oatmeal (and I think the
steel cut are even
better for this), gives it a much different texture than standard oatmeal.
Steel Cut Oats are
best for overnight oats, but you can substitute regular rolled oats (not instant).
I've made them as is, but like them
better with the following substitutions: 1 cup whole wheat (hard red) and 1 cup soft white wheat flour, 1 cup oat flour (made in food processor from
steel cut oats).
This blueberry ginger oatmeal bowl is sooooo cozy and delish, and it's perfect for cold, winter mornings — it starts with

steel cut oatmeal and is then topped with a homemade blueberry syrup (more about that below!)

I buy my gluten free rolled oats from iHerb (http://www.iherb.com/bob-s-red-mill-gluten-free-old-fashioned-rolled-oats-32-oz-907-g/9951?rcode=oto868) and you can also buy gluten free oat flour,
steel cut oats and quick oats as
well.
If you use the
steel cut oats it's even
better.
Apple Cinnamon Chai Oatmeal 1 chai tea bag, steeped in a cup of boiling water 1/4 cup gluten free
steel cut oats (or rolled oats, but
steel cut have a
better texture IMO) Dash of salt Sweetener to taste (I use a few tsp of a stevia / erythritol blend) 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 tbsp collagen hydrolysate gelatin (optional, but adds 5 + grams of protein) 1/4 chopped apple 1/4 tsp cinnamon

I use about 1 cup no sugar vanilla almond milk, a heaping scoop vanilla Vega One, scoop of matcha green tea, a spoon of cinnamon, spoon of
good honey, spoon of almond butter, 1/3 cup pre cooked
steel cut oats, blend, then add another cup almond milk and puree with 1 cup frozen berries and 1 frozen (peel before freezing) ripe organic banana.
Kind of: store - bought rolled oats or
steel -
cut oats have typically been steamed or toasted to prolong shelf life because oats contain a large amount of
good healthy fat and thus can spoil over time.
That's really the main reason I prefer
steel cut - I think the texture is so much
better than the rolled kind.
I know
steel cut is
better and reallly should try making the switch.
The next thing you know I was looking at pictures of
steel cut and thought, «
Well THAT looks too hard to blend into a powder» and just stuck with the Quaker.
I have regular processed as
well as
steel cut oats, and it just seems like there may be too many clumps for her, since she's only had rice cereal so far.
The longer cooking oats are
better than instant — and
steel cut is the healthiest version.
