Steep walls are covered in
gorgonian fans with hidden seahorses, an inquisitive Napoleon wrasse swim right up to you and eagle rays dance in the blue.
Beyond the boulders the sandy sea floor meets the fringing reef which is covered in huge
gorgonian sea fans and twisted wire corals.
We do find the occasional «sleeping» basket star fish as well, all bundled up
in gorgonian coral for the day.
After watching the show we work up the reef slope and finish in the protected shallows, where you'll find huge barrel sponges and coral bommies adorned
with gorgonian fans of many species and colours.
The plateau is covered with coral bommies, huge table corals and the largest number
of gorgonian sea fans at any of the dive sites around Sharm.
As you drift north through the channel, the topography shifts from a gentle slope to steep wall, festooned with colourful soft corals,
huge gorgonian sea fans, and sea squirts and tunicates in a multitude of sizes and shapes.

giant gorgonian sea fans at Mejangen National Marine Park, a shipwreck at Tulamben, fantastic critters at Puri Jati, and Manta Rays and maybe a giant Sunfish (seasonal) at Nusa Penida....

Amos Rock (Southwest Rock)- This popular scuba site found at the North Atoll features a stunning wall with
large gorgonian fans as well as a variety of large fish.
Tidal currents funnel a steady supply of food to filter feeders such
as gorgonians, sea - fans, sponges, schools of grunts and mutton snappers.
When you get to the end of the wall you will find a huge
purple gorgonian sitting in 25 meters.
Further north where the reef meets with the southern part of Beacon Reef, there thrives what is said to be the biggest
gorgonian seafan in the Similans.
Some of the highlights
included gorgonian sea fans themselves, beautiful soft coral formations and animals like Whitetip Reef Shark, Oriental and Diagonal - banded Sweetlips, and two variations of the Denise Pygmy Seahorse, one of them known only from the Birds Head Seascape region, which includes Raja Ampat.
Fish Tale's beautiful reef is awash with
colorful gorgonians, yellow sea whips, sea plumes, orange spiny sea rods and sea fans.
Here you might spot blue tangs, foureye butterflyfish or the rather splendid queen angelfish amongst the soft corals and
small gorgonian fans.
The canyon in the middle is decorated with
golden gorgonian fans plus giant yellow and red sponges.
Huge
red gorgonian's play home to pygmy seahorses which are a definitely a challenge to find.
Along with the opportunity to see multiple leopard sharks resting in the sand, divers will see plenty of scorpion fish,
enormous gorgonian sea fans, giant titan triggerfish and massive barrel sponges that are hundreds of years old.
The massive coral outcrops rising up from the ledge at the very edge of the precipice are covered in a
splendid gorgonian forest.
The dive starts at the south side of the headland («Ras» is an Arabic word for «Cape») with a steep wall drop off to 20 - 25 metres which has a superb
gorgonian forest.
Chance to make a deep dive here, tiny yellow pygmy seahorses are often found on the giant
gorgonians at depth.
In a dazzling array of life, delicate, fan - like hydrocorals in pink, yellow, orange and purple shimmer slightly in the ocean current, among them growing magenta, white and salmon - colored, many - branching, bushy or tree -
like gorgonian corals.
In addition to the reef, there are some very attractive coral formations with
big gorgonians that provide excellent places to find fish and other marinelife.
I prefer to refer to the coral composition in this area as «hard» corals, as opposed to the «softer» corals such as sponges and
gorgonians found along the walls on the outer atolls.
In addition to coral grottoes and pinnacles, there are several historic and modern wrecks to explore, and deeper adventures with profiles that plunge to 90 or 100 feet to take in
gorgonian gardens and thickets of colorful tube and barrel sponges.
The focus is on understanding the balance between hard, stony corals, which form the backbone of ocean reefs, and softer, more
flexible gorgonian corals — tree - like species that form an underwater forest of sorts, providing habitat for small fish and other aquatic life.
PROLONGED summer conditions in the Mediterranean Sea that are linked to global warming are killing off a type of coral
called gorgonians.
Sea whip extract is another winning ingredient that comes from
Caribbean gorgonian coral (where it lives under extreme conditions) to calm and heal skin while fighting aging.

Black corals and
gorgonians give this site a unique appearance as it is inner reef.
Patois for «Large Reef», Grand Caille is known as a very dramatic dive site with deep
water gorgonians and sea whips.
Shadowy branches of black coral waved from the overarching wall, interspersed by the reaching rubbery fingers of
various gorgonians.
If you want wrecks then we are just 20 minutes from the famous USAT Liberty wreck, home to turtles, barracuda, lovely corals and great macro life, or visit Japanese Shipwreck for more macro and
many gorgonians on a sloping reef.
Here there are dramatic limestone walls decorated with healthy soft corals,
gorgonians branching out from the many colourful walls, and dives ending in shallow coral gardens where all manner of marine life frolic among the soft corals and sponges.
Predominantly, there are hard corals and
gorgonians whereas to the north of Mahe many colourful soft corals can be found.

The third dive was done in The Dome, a flat plateau densely covered in xenia soft coral that descends into a slope
where gorgonians and rocks inhabited by Glassy Sweepers are abundant.
Sheer walls like Painted Wall, Half Moon Caye Wall and Quebrada are adorned with huge
crimson gorgonians and giant orange elephant ear sponges.
Topography ranges from stunning rock formations and beautiful age -
old gorgonian sea fans to colourful corals brimming with exotic marine life.
The walls are magnificent with
great gorgonian sea fans, sponges and small caverns to explore along the wall.
The rare red anemone is worth hunting out and
gorgonians grow in the swift currents.
