We've discovered a lot of
great films directed by women at Cannes — just not in the Official Competition.

by Rafael Baledon — one of the
great horror filmmakers, who
directed a total of 70
films.

directing career at the time), and the star is «It» Girl, Clara Bow.

great guy (Bill Hader).
Re-imagining the 1984 classic with female leads (especially one made up of today's funniest
women: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones),
directed by a man who not only makes hilarious
films but seems to innately understand the unique humor
women afford to
film, Paul Feig, is not only a
great indicator that Hollywood might finally be wising up that we need less Get Hard and more Spy and Bridesmaids.
Curtis, who has
directed such
films as «My Week with Marilyn» and «
Woman in Gold,» has assembled an impressive technical team that includes cinematography
by Ben Smithard's («Belle» and TV's «Cranford» for which he won an Emmy), editing
by Victoria Boydell («The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel»), production design
by David Roger (TV's «
Great Expectations»), and costumes
by Odile Dicks - Mireaux («Brooklyn» and «An Education»).
Also a
great year for

«The Hitch - Hiker,» starring Edmond O'Brien, Frank Lovejoy and William Talman, is the only classic
film noir
directed by a
woman, the
great Ida Lupino.
The
greatest asset, aside from the actors, that this
film has is that it was written /
directed by a
woman, Kelly Fremon Craig.
