He was a great humorist and had intense insight into human nature, characterising it without sentiment.
The leaders in my not - so - great generation wish to live without having to accept limits to growth of seemingly endless economic globalization, increasing per capita consumption and skyrocketing human population numbers; their desires are evidently insatiable; they choose to believe anything that is politically convenient, economically expedient and socially agreeable; and they act accordingly.
Perhaps it is just me, but I personally think that humans are at our best when we do not base the arguments that guide all of our decisions everyday on false premises, or assign an improbably great degree of belief to a proposition more or less without evidence.
Chris Hitchens was really at heart one us he was a humanist always forward looking optomistic loved the triump of the human spirit (not a miserbalist control freaking climate alarmist) But mainly he loved all things Ameican (ecept the Clintons) He was this famous scruffy agnostic rather right centred carrassmatic interlectual a great writer and thinker (unlike his his great sibling interlectual rival his brother Peter without the scruffy or the agnostic) Peter and Chris were exactly like that other great brotherly partnership Niles and Frazer Underneath all that interlectual pomposity there was some mad vibe going on between them Imagine them smashing each other with sherry glasses over a discussion about Europe or something
Of course, it could be possible that there is some yet undiscovered mechanism that only absorbs human CO2 (otherwise it would absorb natural CO2 in the absence of our emissions) and some other mechanism that caused a great imbalance in natural sources / sinks causing the increase without a corresponding temperature change.
WITHOUT a shadow of a doubt, the greatest scientific hoax ever perpetrated against mankind is that human's modern life (including your sandwich) is causing catastrophic «climate change» or «global warming» or «climate disruption» or «climate breakdown», depending on the day and the activist concerned.
