The first of a pair of quality South Korean
flicks this year, Train to Busan not only manages to be a solid
zombie flick, it also stands as a
great commentary on parenting and priorities.
Fresnadillo slips twisted ideas into his script — Don's conundrum regarding his wife establishes a
great hook for what could have been a mindless monster movie, and obstacles preventing Scarlet's exit from London's safe zone are credible (at least, as credible as a
zombie flick can be).
Why it's
great: Dead & Buried starts out like a slasher
flick and quickly transforms into a
zombie / mad scientist / crazy town combination platter.
After a
great directorial debut with the
zombie flick «Dawn of the Dead» and two back to back successful comic adaptations in «300» and «Watchmen», you'd think that Zack Snyder would be a fine choice to adapt this children's fantasy book by Kathryn Lansky.
