Brave Buddies uses a
classroom - like setting to let kids practice speaking
in a safe place with a
great deal of positive reinforcement for using their
voices, or «brave talking.»
Yet, as conversations across America intensified about how to ensure that we have
great teachers
in every
classroom, the diverse
voices of educators were being left out of those conversations.
Their conversation opened up discussion on the impact this form can have on instructional practice, especially as it related to teacher capacity and willingness to incorporate
greater student
voice and choice
in the
classroom assessments.
Both teachers demonstrated shifts
in practice toward
greater community building and inclusivity and more inclusive
classroom management, which resulted
in decrease
in referrals and requests for three - way conferences and growth
in student
voice and leadership through a more facilitative or diffuse teacher stance.
