Easily one of the best Sonic
games to date.Every stage is fun and enjoyable.Although that some
Mecha and Treasure stages can take quite some time but i still think it's a
great game.
It's gyroscopic viewing features (moving the controller around to see a different view on the secondary screen) allows for a
greater level of simulation depth, If a developer so chooses, imagine things like panning closely around your television with scanning in a Metroid
game or having a
mecha that pivots its view independently from its body orientation to quickly spot an enemy on your actual right — that's novel stuff, but nice touches possible with the GamePad..
Visually the
game is
great, it has a
Mecha Anime feel to it, it runs really smooth, with no problems when the screen gets busy.
Not a
great year for console
mecha games, I was very dissapointed with how Lost Planet 2 turned out to be and now this, Front Mission Devolved has been giving me bad vibes since I've seen it, so no hope there.
Naturally, the
mecha all look pretty damn
great but it would have been nice to have a bit more visual variety as per the last
game.
The principle behind the indie
games movement was that developers not chained to the high stakes world of initial public offerings and demographics research would be able to create innovative
games that users would want to play, rather than what users had proven in the past that they would be willing to play, and finally there is a
mecha game on the XBLIG service that proves the indie movement right, because Explosionade is a love letter to the
great 2D SNES
mecha sidescrollers that adds just enough new gameplay mechanics to make it its own beast.
So:
great 2D
mecha game, has some truly insane and fun gameplay mechanics,
great title, supports indie developers, maybe a tad too easy if you're badder than the average badass, COSTS ONLY A DOLLAR.
Admittedly, as with all
games, this is part of the learning curve but in the case of the Remote Control Dandy lineage the deliberate movements made the
game more tactical and afforded
greater clarity to the controls,
Mecha MG's controls are subsequently more immediate and a little messy in contrast (to begin with at least).
