Purposeless community is how I remember church back in the late 1970s, when I had my most meaningful
group worship experiences.

Large
group gatherings or
worship services are the place where the largest number of people within a church are typically gathered in one place, and yet it's the least relational
experience and environment in a church.

worship, religious festivals, communion, fellowship
groups, service opportunities — help gratify dependency needs, renew basic trust, and strengthen the alcoholic's sense of meaning and purpose in life.
A vital function of growth
groups for all ages is to help people break out of «the heavies» and
experience «little moments of ecstasy» — in playfulness, joy, celebration,
worship, deep sharing, mystery, and pain.
Invite the MARE Speakers» Bureau (staff and
experienced adoptive families) to talk to your
group, house of
worship, or service organization.
This belief found in some Christian circles suggests arbitrarily that all one needs for life's various difficulties is found in individual and
group Bible study, individual and family devotional
experiences, preaching, collective
worship and pastoral counseling.
