Okay, maybe not quite that many, but the scope of what
dogs can be trained to do has steadily increased since the first
guide dog school opened
in the USA
in 1929.
This fact has kept the older
guide dog schools separate from the rest of the assistance
dog field, and manifests itself
in new training providers receiving a cold shoulder from those more well established providers.
Until a
dog reaches this age, volunteers raise the puppies
in their own homes before returning the
dogs to the
guide school.
