diet (and especially the autoimmune protocol) is really good
at healing the
gut and supporting the growth of a healthy diversity and number of
gut bacteria (which is all to say, I think you can stop, but again, I'm not familiar with that treatment).

at common diseases like heart disease, HBP, IBD, and thyroid disease, we see that many of them are eased by
gut healing diets.
