With the August confirmation of potentially
habitable exoplanet Proxima b, which is a mere 4 light - years away, astrobiologist Preston's first book is a timely one.

That world — called
Proxima b — is the closest
habitable zone
exoplanet to us and may have a temperate atmosphere that could support its own alien biosphere.
And, if a few of these
exoplanets exist in the
habitable zones of their stars (like
Proxima b), perhaps they've been able to hold onto their atmospheres long enough for extraterrestrial biology to take hold and alien life to evolve.
They've not only discovered an
exoplanet orbiting
Proxima Centauri, they've discovered a world orbiting within the star's
habitable zone.
Proxima Centauri b, an Earth - sized
exoplanet in the

Proxima b, our nearest rocky
exoplanet cousin, is in the all - important
habitable zone, too.
So we might just have to send an interstellar probe there to find out if
Proxima b is really the
habitable exoplanet everyone hopes it will be.
Although not all parts of
Proxima b were
habitable in all simulations (the night side in the tidally locked scenario hovered around a nice, balmy -200 degrees Fahrenheit), the models pointed to enough warmish regions to make our neighboring
exoplanet a very acceptable interstellar vacation spot.
