Back then, Samsung called its features Air View and Air Gesture, which allowed you to do things like hover your hand over a tiny sensor in the bezel to wake the screen and view notifications, or wave your hand across the screen to switch between tabs or flip through photos.
Simply wave your hand over the screen and the sensors will pick up the movement, then briefly show you notification icons in white while the rest of the screen stays black.
Of course, Moto Display is still here, but it lacks the infrared sensors of last year's device to more quickly detect when a hand is nearby; you have to nudge or pick up the device to check notifications, rather than waving your hand over it.
