The point of the flats and
hand washing challenge is to bring awareness for parents with diaper needs and to provide a possible alternative for that need.
Personally, I found that it was better to skip the wool during the flats and
hand washing challenge as the idea is to limit yourself to only five covers.
It's been a long week, and the Flats &
Hand washing Challenge is finally over.
This post is a response to me taking on the 2017 Flats &
Hand washing Challenge hosted by Cloth Diaper Revival.
Some of my $ 100 cloth diaper stash gets packed into our go - back for an emergency situation (and taken camping with us), and after the Flats and
Hand washing challenge I'll return to my hobby stash of cloth diapers.
I'm not in
the hand washing challenge though.
I figured, before we pack up our one - size diapers for the Flats and
Hand washing Challenge beginning tonight / tomorrow, this was our golden opportunity.

This year for the 2017 Flats and
Hand washing challenge (hosted by Cloth Diaper Revival) it dawned on me I needed more absorbency to diaper two children for 2 days (my previous stash wasn't going to be sufficient).
This year is the 7th Annual Flats &
Hand washing Challenge.
The bucket of dirty cloth diapers was full, the previous load still in the washing machine, and the stash neatly tucked away for the Flats and
Hand washing Challenge 2017.
Before we begin the 2017 Flats &
Hand washing Challenge, I wanted to touch upon some of expectations for the week and some of my biggest challenges.

The biggest reason why I'm taking the Flats and
Hand washing Challenge is to bring attention to the cloth diaper movement.
The Dirty Diaper Laundry «Flats and
Hand washing Challenge» is challenging cloth diapering mama's to use flats, wash them by hand and talk about it.
Despite participating in the 2016 Flats and
Hand washing challenge, I kind of forgot everything I knew about hand washing diapers.
That's my list of somewhat serious and non-serious things I learnt this year during the Flats &
Hand Washing Challenge.
I know the Flats &
Hand Washing Challenge has rules, but that's because it's a challenge.
I always finish the Flats &
Hand Washing Challenge feeling very humbled.
I have zero regrets about participating in the Flats &
Hand Washing Challenge.
Sometimes, depending on the bulk of my flat diaper, I opened the rise snap of the OS covers to the middle rise during the flats and
hand washing challenge.
I participated in the Flats &
Hand washing challenge this year and did very well using a bucket and plunger in my bath tub.
Not exact matches
In the past 100 years these
challenges have ranged from being a successful part of the industrial revolution by transitioning from
hand egg gathering,
washing and packing, to working with machinery that handles these processes.
Washing a newborn is slippery and a pretty scary task, trying to hold a wriggly baby with one
hand and
wash them with another is a serious parenting
challenge.

So, without further ado, here are my tips for
challenging yourself to using only flat diapers, with no more than five diaper covers, while also
hand washing them all.
Yesterday was the last day of the Flats & Handwashing
Challenge, and I (barely) Survived Flats and
Hand washing.
I'm not making promises to convert to
hand -
washing full time after the
challenge, but it's nice to know I'll have the skills and experience to
wash my diapers by
hand if we were to go camping or face an emergency of some kind.
I want to do this Flats and
Hand -
washing Challenge for my past - self; for the single mom buried inside me and for all her memories of scraping together pennies just to buy my baby diapers.
