Add one more
game to the
list of niche
hardcore games still arriving regularly
on the PS2, which I posted about here.
Diving into the options menu, we see a whole host of customisation; not only do you have the usual menus for audio, video etc, but the actual
game options that are included are impressive: PVE, PVP, PVP BLITZ, Purist, Relaxed,
Hardcore... the
list goes
on.
While the design of the
game is very much «arcade» in nature, where the first play through isn't intended to be the whole
game but rather racking up high scores and challenging yourself (and others
on the High Score
lists) to do better, I still want to say that I feel like there could have been an extra set of «
hardcore» rooms, maybe even just 10 or so, that would have required judicious use of all the more advanced features of the
game mechanics to get through.
While designed to play in quick spurts, the
games on this
list can be quite addicting, drawing you into their world as much as most so - called «
hardcore»
games.
Reviewer's Tilt: I believe that Ocarina 3D still earns a spot
on the short
list of the «best 3DS
games» out there; the evolution of the nostalgic graphics was enough to sell most of the
hardcore fans long ago, but the addition of bonus features and the unique 3DS functionality are what make it one of the most well - designed re-makes published in years, for any console.
Now, I'm not trying to say that the ESRB rating of a
game has anything to do with how
hardcore it is, but if you read that
list and thought to yourself, «Woah, those were all
on a Nintendo console?»
When a loading screen appears, even the most
hardcore of us
gamers feel the need to put down the controller and put the man who invented loading screens
on their hit -
list.
Considering it was only ever released
on the original PSP, it might be a bit harder to find than any of the other
games on the this
list, but it's still worth checking out if you're a
hardcore fan.
