It's been nice in recent days to see some strong advocates for curbs in emissions of
greenhouse gases shift from the more overheated, and unsupported, rhetoric they used earlier this year in attempting a kind of «kitchen sink» argument aiming to tie virtually every recent
harmful weather event to
warming, even those — like powerful tornadoes — for which there is no link and certainly no trend.
And looking further in the future, other researchers see
greenhouse - driven
warming becoming a big and
harmful influence in that populous region: «A statistically predictive model for future monsoon failure in India.»
The experts also considered benefits, but the very term «vulnerability» showed that by now most of them believed the net effects of
greenhouse warming would be
harmful.
Even if extra
greenhouse gases just make it a bit
warmer at the top of a natural cycle and a bit less cold at the bottom of a natural cycle then the current kerfuffle is pointless,
harmful and dangerous.
Among other things, the authors state that [1] «scientists do not know how large the
greenhouse effect is, whether it will lead to a
harmful amount of global
warming, or (if it will) what should be done about it» (p. 560); [2] that «profound disagreements» about global
warming exist within the scientific community (p. 560); [3] that so - called «activist scientists» say that the earth's climate is
warming (p. 560); [4] that «science doesn't know whether we are experiencing a dangerous level of global
warming or how bad the
greenhouse effect Is, if it exists at all» (p. 569); [5] and that global
warming is «enmeshed in scientific uncertainty» (p. 573).
They are a powerful device to further sustainability goals and to tell impactful stories about sustainability, communities, and technology that is reducing the global
warming potential of
harmful greenhouse gases in ways that benefit people, planet, and profit.
It is unclear to me whether they ruled this because
greenhouse gases cause global
warming, which is
harmful, or if the
greenhouse gases themselves are
harmful for humans to inhale.
