Industrial wastes and other organic materials could easily be gasified to both produce electricity and fuel as well as to eliminate some of the land area needed for landfills — land area that could be used for other things, like
harvesting plant biomass.

Data were collected on the amount of irrigation, total
plant biomass, moisture content at
harvest, forage quality and other agronomic traits.
That amount, however, is roughly equivalent to the total amount of
biomass people
harvest today — all the crops,
plant residues, and trees
harvested by people for food, timber, and other uses, plus all the grass consumed by livestock around the world.
The algae is then expected to be
harvested and used as
biomass fuel in the
plant's cement kiln.
By
planting improved perennials, it would be possible to produce many times the
biomass originally
harvested from
plants on degraded lands and thus reduce atmospheric CO2.
Most important,
harvesting plants just at the peak of their growth would add greatly to
biomass production because mature
plants generally show little net growth and
harvest of CO2.
