on the
film, did she
like it,
hate it, or is just plain indifferent?
It goes beyond the fact that the trailers and logline for the
film that we were all sold
on totally misrepresent how the
film actually plays out, essentially spoiling the movie in a bizarrely indirect way that almost feels
like the studio
hated it and was passive aggressively sabotaging it.
Sight unseen, I'd put my money
on Lala Land being one of those well -
liked and least -
hated films, along with Manchester by the Sea and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk.
From French North America, 2010's Incendies was
like a brand new
film for me, its illumination
on love,
hate and strength of spirit span beyond any given
film year.
A bit lengthy run time for a thriller, but absorbing throughout nonetheless, this murder mystery, somewhat loosely based
on the dense best - selling novel by the late Stieg Larsson (which in its native Swedish literally translates to «Men Who
Hate Women», the first in his «Millennium» trilogy), is dark, and more than a little sensationalized (involving perverts, murderers, rapists, Nazis, and literal Biblical interpretations) to be believable, but,
like most good thrillers, it's riveting in a way that you won't be able to turn away from it, even during some of the
film's most brutal moments.
The reason that I put Battle of the Sexes high
on my own list was that it seemed
like a
film no one I spoke with
hated.
It seems
like audiences are in two different camps
on this
film: they either love it or they
hate it, and I think a lot of that has to do with the Tonya Harding type lead character.

The L.A. Riot Spectacular looks
like it was
filmed on a dusty old video camera looted in the actual Rodney King riots (for authenticity), yet it features, in addition to Snoop Dogg: Charles S. Dutton as Mayor Tom Bradley; Emilio Estevez and Christopher McDonald as two of the police officers who beat King; He's My Girl star T.K. Carter as Rodney King; the aforementioned Cox as Gates; Jerry Maguire tot Jonathan Lipniki as
hate - mongering youngster Tom Saltine Jr.; Silence Of The Lambs» Ted Levine as Tom Saltine Sr.; Charles Durning — who in a more blessed time scored back - to - back Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominations for To Be Or Not To Be and The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas — as King's Jewish lawyer; George Hamilton as the «King Of Beverly Hills»; veteran character actor William Forsythe as the man who videotaped the beating; and porn star Ron Jeremy as a Ron Jeremy -
like porn star.
They are full of mistakes and they are repeatedly caught telling lies because it's the trend (
like when they did the Resident Evil
films and it is the trend to
hate on them) and when somebody calls them out their excuse is that «it's all for fun» and their fanbase are calling the others fanboys and crybabies.
