price of an economy ticket).
Next, I went to delta.com to see both how many points and the cash
price Delta was charging for these short -
haul flights.
Short, domestic
flights will still be well -
priced, but premium long -
haul award tickets will get more expensive.
One little trick I found, if you're flying from Europe, try to fly to Singapore or Malaysia as they are central
flight hubs for almost any long -
haul flight and
prices can be considerably cheaper.
One way awards start at 4,500 Avios for
flights outside the U.S. and 7,500 Avios for those originating or terminating in the U.S. Even with the slightly more expensive
price for U.S. short
haul awards, they are still cheaper than domestic awards on the big 3 US carriers which are typically 10,000 - 12,500 each way.
