- Pain relief and mobility: The warm
water in which a
water birth occurs can
have several positive effects on the delivery
experience of some expecting mothers.
Others opt for a pool of
water in which to
have a natural delivery and some
experience their baby's
birth in their own bed.
Not all doctors or midwives
have experience with giving
birth in
water or feel comfortable with the idea.
If you
have high blood pressure, are
having twins or a breech
birth or
experience a ruptured membrane when you go into labor,
having a
water birth may not be the best idea.
I think to be fair it should begin in Europe where we lay in bed many nights talking about
having a midwife in the United States and starting to look at
water birth experiences.
It's kind of bothering, though, knowing that I never
have and never will
experience a normal
birth — normal as in
having my
water break, going through the labor, and pushing.
Eventually I felt comfortable enough to
have another baby, and I am happy to report that I
had a wonderful
experience the second time around: a med - free, intervention - free
water birth and a healthy 9 and a half pound baby boy, with no post-partum complications.
I
've experienced three drastically
births now: an emergency C - section, a natural VBAC at the hospital and finally a
water birth at a birthing center.

It was a great
experience, even though I didn't
have a
water birth.
I was blessed in
having a
water birth that it was an almost bloodless
experience, and I did not tear, nor did I haemorrhage, so I did not need to use this.
It is worth knowing too, that many women who
have water births say that they don't
experience the terrible burning, tearing sensation as the baby comes out.
Today, Anne
has extensive training and clinical
experience in women's health and maternity care, in both in - hospital and out - of - hospital settings, including
water birth.
From hypnobirthing, to one of the few
water birth facilities in North America, we were all set to
have a wonderful, alternative
birth experience.
She worked hard for a good

I personally
have done at about 350 to 400
water births myself so I feel very
experienced and qualified to answer your questions.
Because giving
birth in
water requires that you not
experience a reason to be removed from the
water — so not funny fetal heart tones, no meconium, whatever the criteria were that
would make a woman leave the
water.
This may take the form of glasses of
water, foot massages, bringing you up a meal, holding the baby whilst you
have a shower, talking over the
birth experience, postnatal exercises, chatting about baby names, offering you the evidence for episiotomy or scar healing and much more.
Both of them fell in love with the
birth process after going through it themselves with their first littles, and now between the two of them
have experienced hospital
birth,
water birth (at All About Babies, of course), home
birth and cesarean section, giving them a truly comprehensive understanding of the beauty in each and every
birth story
I ended up
having to transfer to a hospital for my first
birth (long labor and meconium particulates in the
water), and while it was necessary and I am extremely grateful for the care they provided my daughter, the
experience wasn't reflective of a natural process.
One of the benefits of
having a natural
birth experience includes
having more control over the
birth process; things that seems so simple when you're not operating under hospital rules stay that way: you can
have a drink of
water when you want one; the father can participate as fully as he wants to (short of actually
having the baby for you, of course).
I
have had a home
water birth and I
have never
experienced anything more wonderful.
