A portable detector would greatly aid efforts to fight the infection in developing countries, particularly parts
of Asia and Africa where as much as 40 percent
of the
population carries the microbe, says Robert Belknap, a physician and TB expert at the Denver
Health Medical Center in Colorado.
The researchers wanted to find out whether the
populations that clone themselves the most have better
health and signs
of delayed ageing in relation to the
populations that
carry out more sexual reproduction.
Objective: We
carried out de novo recruitment
of a
population - based cohort (MANOLIS study) and describe the specific
population, which displays interesting characteristics in terms
of diet and
health in old age, through deep phenotyping.
It is the sixth leading cause
of death in the U.S., afflicts 11 percent
of the U.S.
population over the age
of 65, and
carries with it an annual
health care cost
of $ 226 billion (2015 estimate).
Group parenting programmes have been shown to have a positive impact on the mental
health of children and parents in the short term.9 — 12 Positive results have been obtained from randomised controlled trials and other studies with parents
of children with clinically defined behaviour disorders, 9,13,14 children at high risk
of behaviour problems, 9,15 and to a lesser extent with normal
populations.16, 17 They have also been obtained in trials
of interventions for parents and children
of different ages.18, 19 The number
of trials
carried out in the UK is small.13, 15,20,21 A recent systematic review concluded that these programmes are effective in the long term, 12 but most
of the trials on which this review was based used a waiting list control design, and as a result outcome data are not reported on the control groups beyond 6 months.
