Oftentimes, you
hear about low supply when
talking or reading
about breastfeeding challenges.
I was a new mom, and the only thing I knew
about breastfeeding was from what I read in numerous baby books, and the horror stories I
heard from friends (you know what I'm
talking about).
Still, there's one thing no one
talks about when they
talk about breastfeeding and the difficulties you could potentially face, and it's a shame, because it's honestly the one thing every
breastfeeding or potential
breastfeeding mother really needs to
hear.
I never
heard too much of
breastfeeding past 1 because everybody only
talked about the first 6 months and then the 1st yr.
It has helped to be able to share stories — tell them and
hear them — of various incidents involving
breastfeeding an older child and to
talk about the feelings of joy, embarrassment, resentment, etc. that such incidents bring up.»
The hurdles that new moms face in trying to fulfill the extended
breastfeeding recommendations put forth by health experts are something we rarely
hear celebrities
talk about.
So now you've got three girls total, which I think plays into out topic quite well today and
talking about reasons to
breastfeed because, Christine, I feel like you've kind of experienced a lot of different things having
breastfed twins and now a singleton, so I'm really excited to
hear what you have to say.

I have never had a negative experience with a lactation consultant, during my troubles
breastfeeding both kids, so I was always surprised when I
heard friends
talking about the pressure they felt from their own.
As a kid, one of the first times I actually remember
hearing or seeing anything
about breastfeeding was in one of my favorite movies, Look Who's
Talking.
That's why, one of the things you and I were
talking about some things firms can do, I think firms need to be able to
talk about and women need to ask for and they need to be
heard when they say, «I need
breastfeeding accommodations,» just a simple concrete thing that a firm can do to give them the message that says, «We want gender equity at this firm.
