It's incredibly beneficial to your pets health to have routine annual blood work done and
heartworm season offers great discounts to help with this.
Puppies greater than 8 weeks of age should be started on preventative if born
during heartworm season (May through November).
If you find you have skipped several months of heartworm prevention in the middle
of heartworm season, you might do better to restart an ivermectin - based product rather than a milbemycin - based product.
Puppies born during periods of no heartworm transmission need not be tested prior to the start
of heartworm season the following spring, i.e. pups born after November 1st need not be tested before their first preventative medication the following May 1st.
Ask your vet to get the DNA test done (NOT the antigen test) according to the schedule above based on
the heartworm season where you live.
All dogs that have been through
