To say education today relies
heavily on assessment data would be an understatement.

Now that we have a national curriculum, I do wonder whether rather than relying so
heavily on NAPLAN it would be better to look at making sure that we perhaps increase moderation and get more consistency around the
assessments that we use within our schools to assess the outcomes of the curriculum that the school students are working
on, and perhaps look at report card
data and at strengthening some of those things.
Good self -
assessment uses the
data to inform judgements rather than relying
heavily on opinion.The days of seeing self -
assessment as a prescriptive tome that distracts from the day job are long gone.
Teachers reported that professional development focused
heavily on using
assessment data to inform instruction, but that's not the area in which teachers want additional support.
Effective needs and resources
assessments rely
heavily on data related to student behaviors and the perceived needs of students, staff, and parents.
