Time to moo - ve those thoughts aside, because the world of
dairy - free sweets is just as chocolaty and satisfying as those
heavy cream - steeped treats your friends are eating.
This particular version is
dairy - free, made with coconut milk instead of a combination of whole milk and
heavy cream (though certainly those ingredients could be substituted in to make a more traditional ice
cream).
I needed this to be completely
dairy - free, so I used unsalted margarine in place of the butter and whipped topping instead of
heavy cream (people have also suggested nondairy creamer or coconut
cream, but I didn't have any handy!)
And even more so, is it possible that neither of those ingredients is
heavy cream (or any
dairy product for that matter)?
Just want to say that we tried making these
dairy - free, by substituting vegan margarine for the butter and then coconut
cream (with a tablespoon of coconut oil) for the
heavy cream — and it worked well!

Is there a

I use creme fraiche because I typically only consume cultured
dairy (and I like to make my own), but
heavy cream works well as a substitute.
I chose to follow The Primal Blueprint style of eating rather than the full on Paleo Diet because the Primal lifestyle is a bit less restrictive on
dairy (raw milk cheeses, greek yogurt,
heavy cream) and natural sweeteners (stevia, palm sugar, honey).
I made it with
