Researchers at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in the United Kingdom will conduct a three - year disease surveillance program to
help wildlife managers develop a response plan to manage the threat of fungal diseases in Madagascar's amphibians.
«We hope that this study and similar ones will
help wildlife managers and government agencies to anticipate where conservation measures to protect the region's unique primates, such as the mountain and Grauer's gorillas, birds, reptiles, and other unique species will be most effective,» said Sam Ayebare of WCS Uganda and lead author of the paper.
Her findings, published in the Journal of Animal Ecology on June 5, could
help wildlife managers target their efforts to prevent outbreaks and potentially help public health officials prevent disease in human populations as well.
