Second, protein
intake should be
high enough to maintain muscle mass when
carb intake is low, especially
during weight loss.
Please Note: An overall lower calorie
intake helps you lose weight fast and not a certain amount of
carbs, proteins & fats but... Lower
carb intakes do result in faster weight loss due to lowered appetite (or eating less calories), water weight loss and more calories burned
during digestion due to
higher protein
intake.
Side note: One of the purposes of the super heavy, low rep weight training
during the low -
carb,
high fat phase is that both of these aspects (the heavy training and the
high fat
intake) help to maximize healthy testosterone levels... which is obviously good for both maintaining muscle and losing body fat, among other benefits.
Targeted Ketogenic Diet (TKD) is all about managing your
carbs intake during days of
high activity.
I rarely eat processed
carbs or
high fructose corn syrup or processed foods (except probably for
during said binges), and have increased my calorie
intake to a more realistic level and have stopped binging except for cheat meals and once in a while overindulgence but no matter what I do weight does not come off.
While this shouldn't be used as an excuse to «not eat»
during exercise, it would be quite interesting to see studies of children given a
higher fat
intake prior to exercise compared to children given primarily
carbs.
Other than those supplements, the only other things I use are a daily multivitamin (which I use year - round) and fish - oil caplets on my
high carb days in order to still get in my desired
intake of omega - 3 fatty acids while eating low fat
during those days.
