In the 1970s and 1980s, some astronomers suggested that observed flare activity or light minima in EV Lac's light curve between flares could have been caused by an eclipsing companion with an orbital period of around 45 years and
a high orbital eccentricity (e ~ 0.5)(G. Sh.
In the case of Edasich, however,
the high orbital eccentricity of its companion made its motion distinguishable from stellar pulsation as the cause of the observed velocity variations.
This star is located about 224 AUs away on average (a semi-major axis of 14.39» at a HIPPARCOS distance of 50.87 light - years) with an orbital period around 2,000 years and an extremely
high orbital eccentricity of 0.91.

This large range also arises from the planet's
high degree of
orbital eccentricity.
Raymo and Paillard have a good story about the 100KYr cycle arising from the modulation of the precessional cycle by the changes in the Earth's
orbital eccentricity, coupled with some glacial dynamical effects which «rectify» the
high frequency precessional signal.
In fact, the literature is pretty clear that the better analog for the Holocene is actually MIS11 (Droxler), around 400 kya, when
orbital eccentricity was quite low as it is today, resulting in a longer interglacial (Berger) with sea levels
higher than during the Eemian.
A link between Earth's
orbital eccentricity and NADW production with
high eccentricity leading to low production of NADW and vice versa is proposed by Crowley and Kim (1992).
An ~ 100kyr periodicity in fast - spreading seafloor bathymetry, and relatively low present - day eruption rates, at a time of
high sea - level and decreasing
orbital eccentricity suggest a longer term sensitivity to sea - level and
orbital variations associated with Milankovitch cycles.
Palaeoclimate studies show that differences in the manner in which the Earth orbited the Sun during the Last Interglacial are sufficient to explain the
higher temperatures over most parts of the Northern Hemisphere, particularly due to greater axial tilt and
eccentricity compared with the present day
orbital configuration.
