Hence the above velocity map of the glacier will indicate higher average velocities in the quadrants with
the highest calving volume flux.
The only similar glacier on the Northern Icefield, is the San Rafael (which used to have
a high calving flux and velocity until it started receding into shallow water).
Higher calving flux indicates higher velocities (Van Den Broecke et al, 2009).

The main difference here is that colostrum (taken within 6 hours of
calving) has much
higher protein levels, and that's why colostrum is filled with all the wonderful proline rich polypeptides that have such amazing benefits for our health (these are basically a type of protein, but a rather special type in terms of it's affects on building the immune system).

If I may add one more speculative question: are the portions of glacial sheets formed during periods of
high ice flux less stable, and more prone to
calving, than those formed during slow flux?
In both cases the

We use the equations in (Rahmstorf, S. 2007), and allow users to examine the impact of
higher or lower future SLR per degree of warming through a sensitivity parameter, so that users can examine, for example, the impact of
higher future rates of SLR due to accelerating melt and
calving from the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets.
Scientists know these processes can lead to collapse, because it's already happening: In Greenland, the Jakobshavn glacier is in rapid retreat, with the unstable
calving cliff now more than 250 feet
high, about as tall as the Statue of Liberty.
