In the lowest difficulty, you're forced to stand motionless amidst
several enemies as you endlessly
hit them again and again until they die, instead of swiftly clearing a couple with every strike and altering the battlefield with every swipe of your blade.
The Hulk has
several ways to
hit, stomp, and throw
enemies, and a rage meter will fill as you beat
enemies and will let you unleash more powerful moves when filled.
Not only does your ship's
hit - box seem to be a little too large, but there were
several instances where I died due to a surprise attack from behind or when a cloud obscured an
enemy.
There's also a decent number of
enemy types to contend with, from typical cannon fodder grunts to huge beastly thugs that take
several hits from the most powerful tools in your arsenal — and boy, are they huge in numbers.
Their grenades are one of the most notable improvements since the last game; the ability to throw a grenade and not have to wait
several more seconds before it explodes after already
hitting the ground increases your accuracy, and makes them a viable option over just a «distraction» for the
enemies.
The bosses» damage output is extremely high relative both to what normal
enemies can dish out and to what you can yourself, and the aforementioned frequency of stunning attacks grants some bosses
several hits on you if they manage to land just one.
Other classic Mario traits that have been implemented are a score, which grants you an extra life if you can chain enough
hits together to defeat
several enemies, much as chasing a kicked shell would do for Mario in his other adventures.
Also, there are
several times where you get
hit by
enemies from off - screen.
