Last week, DOE announced it will
hold an
auction for the rights to build wind turbines in 344,000 acres of federal waters off New Jersey in November, the latest of several
lease auctions it has announced (E&EN ews PM, Sept. 23).

auctioning off huge tracts of the reserve to the oil and gas industry — don't bode well for the future of this important habitat.

auction for commercial solar development on public lands, offering three parcels for
lease with a collective acreage of 3,700 in the San Luis Valley of Colorado.
An
auction will be
held later this year for two
lease areaas of Massachusetts, it was confirmed.
The announcement comes one week before DOI's first competitive offshore wind
lease auction is
held for 164,750 acres for development off the coasts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island on July 31st, an event Interior Secretary Sally Jewell has said could set the pace for future
auctions.
Considering that the BLM is prohibited from cashing checks for land
leased at
auction until the merits of the case are heard, I wonder Tim DeChristopher who placed an inspired $ 1.7 million bogus bid to protect some of that land from development will make an effort to actual raise the cash needed to
hold onto his
lease.
