This is much needed to help normalize the view of birth in the U.S. And thank you for fighting to
make home births an option for families!
On a personal note, I'm sure I speak for many families when I say that I am beyond grateful for the sacrifices you and your family have made to make
safe home birth an option, and it was a privilege to have you attend the birth of our children!
In it, André Lalonde, executive vice-president of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC), explains that he would never
consider home birth an option for his family because of the unexpected risks and, from his career experience, knowing that although everything can look fine, disaster can suddenly strike.
To that end, I had chosen my obstetrician carefully: the only one in the Greater Cincinnati area at that time who specialized in natural birth, having as well a team of certified midwives and offering
a home birth option.
I had a wonderful & straightforward pregnancy, so we decided to go for
the Home birth option as it was something i was really keen on.
Founded in 1988,
the Home Birth Option of Cleveland is an advocacy group whose purpose is to support, encourage, and educate women and their families about gentle birth alternatives.
Trying to bully and shame moms out of
the home birth option, as Dr T is currently doing, is not going to accomplish any good.
There is growing concern among primary care givers that these short - stay hospital births (termed «poliklinische bevallingen») enhance the risk of medicalisation and may ultimately eliminate
the home birth option.
It is important, therefore, that
the home birth option remains available, but especially that women at low risk are really given a free choice.
