Fort Baker's Horseshoe Cove was the
home of the Harbor Defense's mine
depot, where Coast Artillery soldiers would carefully
load 800 pounds of TNT into metal mines and then plant them underwater, outside the mouth of the bay, with a complex series of electronic cables.
