Many artists have veni'd to Venice in recent years, but few have vinci'd (and that includes a few who took
home golden lions).
Lav Diaz «s Filipino drama The Woman Who Left took
home the Golden Lion, while Tom Ford's noir Nocturnal Animals stole the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize,
Guillermo del Toro took
home the Golden Lion (last seen awarded to an American film in 2010, courtesy of Sofia Coppola's Somewhere) for The Shape of Water, which is just unlikely to be remembered as his best work as it is a great Leone.
The Shape of Water has only screened at a few film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, but it already took
home the Golden Lion for best film at the Venice Film Festival.

home emotionally, but it's a reasonable winner.
