In March 2000 I was one of five people in my community to start the Heaven Can
Wait Animal Society for
homeless dogs and cats.
While some community animal shelters are busting at the seams with
homeless pets, other communities have shelters with a
waiting list of folks who are anxious to adopt a
dog or
cat and provide them with a loving forever home.
This year, our goal is to raise $ 125,000 through sponsorships
and ticket sales to help Little Traverse Bay Humane Society provide a safe haven for
homeless dogs and cats while they
wait for loving, forever families.
On any given day, there are between 60 - 80
homeless kittens, puppies,
dogs and cats waiting to meet their next best friend
and find a forever loving home.
Therefore, while campers will have daily opportunities to learn more about
and meet with different animals (including shelter
dogs and cats and visiting animals), they should not expect to spend significant amounts of time working with or handling
homeless pets
waiting for adoption.
Every weekend there are
homeless cats and dogs here
waiting to find their forever home.
Our Fostercare
and Adoption Program for
cats and dogs and homeless animals helps care for them while recovering from surgery or an illness, while
waiting to find their forever homes.
