For the roughly 2 million
homeschooled children in the United States, learning doesn't necessarily entail sitting at a kitchen table all day with a parent and siblings.
We joined a homeschool co-op and she'll be having Friday school with many other
homeschooled children in our county.
Universally, there are people who choose to
homeschool their children in efforts to provide them with a better education and learning environment.

in a pluralistic society.
People who have no obvious stake
in the matter, like most of the people who have expressed dismay at my wife and my decision to

children, tend to side with the establishment against the parents.

children's education and the historical model which worked for 230 years, is legal and practiced
in all fifty states.

I do know some
homeschooling families that
homeschool one
child because of whatever reasons and the others are
in school.
The things my daughter finds to do and creates on her own with me just very loosely facilitating are now and have always been way cooler and more enriching for her than the organized things they did
in preschool (and sadly now school - school, to the extent that I would not mind
homeschooling, but that's a whole other more complicated issue...) A lot of it depends on the
child and the home environment.
While my daughter is only turning 2 this December, my husband and I are already thinking about
homeschooling our
children (as the topic of «getting into pre-school» has come up
in conversations with other parents).
I am one of the only people
in my group of friends (including my husband's friends) who has a college degree, and I plan to get a Master's degree, and to
