Hi Cary, You could replace the agave with
honey, I'm not certain if
honey would be stronger
so I would recommend starting with 2 Tbsp,
taste it and add more if needed.

honey is used to 1) activate the yeast,
so it has some sort of «sugar» to feed off of, and 2) to add a slightly sweet
taste to the buns.
Turns out I only had 1/4 c
honey so used brown rice syrup for the remaining 3/4 c. I think this made the cake less sweet but with all the other sweeteners I don't think the
taste was compromised.
