We pay those prices with more
hope than expectation most of the time, but is it not fair for us to want our club to do the same with players?
A good win would probably do it, but if we are playing more
in hope than expectation, how is that confidence boosting win going to come?
I do hope that Arsene Wenger has a fantastic ace up his sleeve when it comes to getting a new striker for Arsenal fans to cheer about in the current summer transfer window, but I must admit to living more
in hope than expectation and as the days and weeks tick by my concern increases that it will be the same old story for us.
There will have been a few members of the Arsenal squad waiting for the announcement of the first England sqaud chosen by the new manager with more
hope than expectation, especially as Sam Allardyce is thought to have something of a grudge against the Gunners as well as his style of football being quite different to that employed by our own boss Arsene Wenger.
Despite it still being mathematically possible for Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season, in reality we are living a lot more in
hope than expectation.
It is not really a big surprise and most of us will have spent today more in
hope than expectation, even though it was reported at the start of the day that Arsene Wenger was in his office early in case something came up.
Nothing is really expected of Arsenal... definitely not in the champions league and its just more in
hope than expectation that we can win the EPL.
But we are still looking forward to the resumption of the domestic football action more in
hope than expectation, mainly because of the disappointment in Arsene Wenger's failure to sign a single outfield player.
So we travel to Newcastle more in
hope than expectation and if we lose and Man City win, that will leave Arsenal eight points off the runaway leaders.
I reckon that a lot of Arsenal fans spent the summer more in
hope than expectation that things would change at Arsenal Football Club, despite various members of the board including our CEO Ivan Gazidis telling us that it would happen even though they had not changed the manager as many fans were demanding but instead gave the apparently unsackable Arsene Wenger another well paid two year contract.
It would have been a massive morale boost for the players and coach to have finished the first half of the season on a winning note but instead everyone will look forward to the game against Roma more in
hope than expectation.
It was only much later that I realised this had a lot more to do with
hope than expectation.
